2020 Good Food Awards Winner
Juan Domingo is filled with complex fruit tones, with notes of currant, watermelon, orange, apple, and peach, with a creaminess that reminds us of ambrosia fruit salad. There is a floral characteristic that when mixed with the bright orange make us think of mimosas. This coffee is a beautiful representation of the best Huehuetenango has to offer—approachable, yet sophisticated. It is the perfect cup to share with just about anyone in any setting.

Juan Domingo is a member of the CODECH cooperative, based in Concepción Huista, a small town in northern Huehuetenango. Spyhouse has purchased from this group since the very beginning of our roasting program. Three years ago, on our first visit to the group, we fell in love with Juan’s coffee when he took third in his first year of the community competition. It was our favorite lot that year and has been an annual favorite of ours each year following. This year, returning to judge the competition again, we were not able to taste his lot until we had completed three days of competition judging. Although there were many beautiful coffees in the top ten this year, Juan’s was our favorite once again. Since we had made an agreement to keep his coffee out of the competition we chose to pay him a bonus well over what he would have earned as a first-place winner. We are so excited to offer this beautiful coffee to you once again.
