Over 300 smallholder farmers in the mountains surrounding Gedeb comprise Banko Gotitti, one of the most recognized co-ops for producing coffee in the Yirgacheffe region, one of Ethiopia's most popular coffee-producing areas.

Each farmer cultivates at least 90 trees on half a hectare of land and transports their coffee cherry to Huke Washing station on a mule or on foot. For these farmers’ families, coffee is a vital cash crop that supports their livelihoods, paying for school fees, taxes, and daily necessities.

Coffee Bio

The nearby town of Worka, whose name translates to 'Golden' in the local Gedeo dialect, aptly sets the scene for this coffee that is considered a crown gem in their collection. Worka Chelchele is actively developing relationships with farmers at higher elevations and implementing lot separation to further refine quality and highlight the unique, exquisite flavor profiles of the region's native heirloom varieties. This flavor profile features sweet and floral notes, such as melon and honeysuckle, balanced with subtle stone fruit undertones.
