Spyhouse Celebrates Women's History Month With Gender Equity Programming And Women In Coffee Event
In celebration of Women's History Month, Spyhouse Coffee Roasters is excited to announce a series of programming surrounding women in coffee throughout the month of March. Lifting up women in coffee is core to Spyhouse’s DNA, with a longstanding practice of including women-produced coffees in their core offerings; a practice that has culminated in Spyhouse’s Gender Equity Project.

Launched in the Fall of 2023, Spyhouse’s Gender Equity Project aims to increase gender equity and empower women within the coffee industry and the broader community. By employing intentional sourcing practices and sharing proceeds, Spyhouse is committed to making a meaningful impact

"At Spyhouse, we believe in the power of community to foster greater equity. We are incredibly proud to highlight the remarkable contributions of women throughout the coffee industry for Women’s History Month. Our Gender Equity Project and the Women in Coffee Event are a testament to our commitment to fostering gender equity and empowering women both locally and globally. By supporting women in each link of coffee supply chain, we aim to create a lasting impact that extends far beyond Spyhouse." Adrienne Blasky, Sales Representative, Spyhouse Coffee Roasters.

The Gender Equity Project includes two of Spyhouse’s year-round coffee offerings that source from women producers: Moonstruck and Bold & The Beautiful. For each of these coffees, noted by the Gender Equity Project seal on their packaging, Spyhouse pays women producers a gender-equity premium on top of the quality-based initial price for their coffees.

At home, Spyhouse donates a portion of proceeds from Gender Equity Project coffees to local women’s’ organizations annually, ensuring that the impact of each cup extends far beyond the café. Spyhouse’s inaugural partner was the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center, whose mission is to empower Native women and families to exercise their cultural values with integrity, and to achieve sustainable lifeways, while advocating for justice and equity.

"We are deeply grateful to Spyhouse Coffee Roasters for their generous support and to everyone who enjoyed the Gender Equity coffee blends. Your contributions have made a significant impact on our efforts to empower Native women and their families. At the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center (MIWRC), our mission is to support and strengthen Native women and families through culturally grounded advocacy, education, and healing services. Together, we are making strides towards a more equitable and just community." Ruth Buffalo, Citizen of the MHA Nation and CEO/President of the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center

As part of their celebration, Spyhouse is sponsoring a Women in Coffee event on March 29th at Mill City Roasters from 9 to 11 a.m. The event will feature a panel of women from various sectors of the coffee industry, providing insights into their work and experiences. Attendance is free; however, donations to the Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center will be welcomed. See here for tickets.

The Women in Coffee event will serve as a networking opportunity for women in the industry, fostering connections and encouraging collaboration among peers. Through discussions and shared experiences, attendees can deepen their understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by women in coffee. By highlighting these stories, Spyhouse aims to celebrate the contributions of women and inspire future generations within the field.

You can find Spyhouse’s Gender Equity Project coffees at all seven Spyhouse café locations and in grocery stores across the Twin Cities, with every purchase directly contributing to both local women's organizations and women producers abroad.
