Our second Rwanda offering from our partners at Higa this year comes from the Vunga washing station in the Northern Province of Rwanda. This is the second year in a row that this coffee has stood out among some of the best coffees coming out of Rwanda.
The Vunga washing station is managed by Daphrose Uwimana. While it is still rare for a woman to be the president and leader of a cooperative in Rwanda, she’s held the title since 2009. In addition to running a successful washing station, she has also invested her own money in purchasing land with the goal of educating young people in the area about specialty coffee in hopes they will be inspired to enter the coffee sector. Spyhouse is proud to showcase Daphrose’s impressive initiative and spectacular coffee as part of our Gender Equity Project where we hope to aid in creating more opportunities for women like Daphrose at origin and in our own community.

Coffee Bio
Like our previous Rwanda offering from Kilimbi, this coffee features a delicate complexity of flavor. However, rather than dried fruit and black tea notes, this lot from Vunga leans a little brighter in tone. We taste notes of white tea, peach, and bright citrus.
