Coffee Bio
Los Dos Socios is a small farm located near the village of El Chalum, La Libertad, just a mile from the Mexican border in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango. The entire farm is roughly seventeen acres, each with just 226 coffee trees. This is historically one of the most well-known coffee regions in the world, however, it is undergoing a bit of a renewal. Leaf rust, a fungal infection, devastated the 13/14 harvest cycle, forcing the government to declare a state of emergency in the coffee sector and implement major renovation projects throughout the country. These changes made room for new producers to come forward and fill some gaps as they found new confidence in the changing market. It is a hopeful time in Guatemala as we see farmers like Villatoro Matías step into new opportunities.
