Juan Domingo is a member of the CODECH cooperative, based in Concepción Huista in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango region. We have purchased from the cooperative for four years, primarily for our Division blend. This year our Director of Coffee, Tony, traveled to judge a cooperative competition in which Juan Domingo’s coffee took third place overall and garnered one of Tony’s highest scores in both rounds. We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to feature a single producer from a group that we have carried from the very first days of our roasting program. It is important to Spyhouse that we maximize our resources. Therefore we are working to build single-producer relationships out of as many of our community partnerships as possible, deepening those relations and impact within the group.
Juan Domingo is beautifully balanced between rich flavors of chocolate hazelnut and deep fruitiness. The cup starts off with notes of ripe plum, turning more toward cherry cola, before it cools into notes of dark grape and chocolate-covered-hazelnut. This coffee is very balanced and can be enjoyed by almost anyone. It is the perfect coffee to share with those you love as our weather starts shifting toward cooler days.
