Fazenda Recreio has been in the Machaedo family for four generations. It is now under the leadership of Diogo Machaedo, agronomist and great-grandson of the farm’s founder. The farm has a deep legacy as one of the top estates in Brazil, winning the national Cup of Excellence in 2004 and placing in the top five 2006-2010. Half of the family’s annual harvest of 5000 bags is naturally processed with a total of twenty-five percent of their production being high-end specialty.
Natural and Pulped-Natural Brazil historically act as the anchor element of many roaster’s espresso blend. Our Orion espresso, inspired by those classics, uses this offering as its foundation. When selecting elements this year, we were so impressed by the quality of this offering we purchased extra to release as a single lot offering. This natural Yellow Bourbon stands above that classic impression you may have of Brazilian coffee.
Fazenda Recreio carries a rich and silky mouth-feel with initial notes of chocolate toffee, dark fruit, and nuts. As the cup cools the balanced wine-like acidity moves forward, continuing to sweeten through the finish. This coffee is a very refined representation of what gives this style of coffee the “crowd pleaser” reputation, but stands well above its peers. It is the perfect coffee to impress just about anyone in your family.
