Chelbessa sings with notes of white flowers and sweet citrus, anchored by fully ripened stone fruit flavors. The first sip calls to mind the honeyed-lemon aromas of elderflower nectar, developing into richer stone fruit flavors that remind us of fresh apricot. This coffee finishes with the hallmark of this region—perfectly sweet lemonade. It is the perfect coffee for a weekend morning as the days are beginning to grow a little longer, sharing a bit more light each sunrise.

The Chelbessa coffee mill is located in the center of a bowl-shaped valley. More than 1,000 individual producers transport their ripe cherry to the mill, by foot or mule, from their farms high in the surrounding mountains. Each farm owns, on average, just 2 hectares, sharing the land with their other subsistence crops and shade trees. The area surrounding Chelbessa is the birthplace of coffee. The same indigenous heirloom varietals have been growing in the same bright orange, mineral-rich soil for thousands of years. The coffee coming out of here is simply incomparable.
Chelbessa returns to us once again as an annual favorite and this time we feel it surpasses our greatest memories. We are thankful for the hard work of the Roba family, the three brothers who manage the Chelbessa coffee mill, as we are able to experience this cup as one of the finest examples of our favorite experiences. Washed coffees from this area of Ethiopia are so beautiful and dynamic. This coffee is an unparalleled representation.
